Dear parent,
Thank you for your interest in my “Every Child Is Beautiful“ project and collection. I am excited that you are considering to let your child participate! As you may have seen in my flier or Evansville Parent ad, the objective of this project is to develop a stock photography collection of a wide variety of children. As I have explained to some of you, my goal is to spend this year photographing children of all races, skin colors, beliefs, disabilities and abilities, and to make a book collection out of it. I hope that some of you were able to go to the Dr. JoAnn Deak (http://www.deakgroup.com/deak/index.html) seminar that the Girl Scouts Rain Tree council put on this past year (in late 2007). One of the things that stuck out in my mind is that our children will need to learn to be adaptable as they grow up, and part of that adapting is accepting and befriending children who are different than they are. As they grow older, they will encounter an even greater melting pot of humanity than we’ve ever known. They will work along side people of different colors, different religions, different beliefs, and different abilities, and teaching our children to be tolerable and friendly to everyone will be a key social skill to bestow upon them as they continue to grow up. This rang especially true for me when my babysitter (who also teaches at Mia and Cooper’s daycare) told me that Mia and another of her friends wouldn’t play with another little girl because she had blond hair and not brown hair like they did… these little girls are 4 years old and already they are doing that? To me, that’s not right, and I wanted to do something about it. I want to put together these books for three different age ranges of children, starting with simple board books of images for babies, to more in depth books for children of grade school age. I want to share with our children how beautiful our differences make us and to help teach them that those differences are what make each of us special. I hope that your family will be joining us in this endeavor, and by all means, please tell your friends if they have any children in the appropriate age range! I will be shooting in spring, summer, and fall of 2008, and all of the images will go into my stock photography collection as well. I license my non-client photography work through Advocate Art out of London, so even if your child’s photograph isn’t used for the book (and actually even if it is), it will also go into my pool of images that are promoted by Advocate to international and US card and gift companies. I have the final say in where my images end up, so I will use all appropriate discretion in choosing appropriate uses for the images.
As you are aware, in exchange for your time and the use of the images, I am offering free modeling packages (1 8x10, 3 5x7s, 5 4x6s, and 8 wallets). For those with Internet access, the proofs will be posted on a secure site online, and you can just email me the photographs that you are choosing for your package. If you do not have Internet access, we can make arrangements to view them at a public computer location. I do have a wide variety of other items that are available through the studio (stretched canvases, additional photographs, purses, tiles, etc.), but anything like that is completely up to you if you have any interest in upgrading the modeling package and can be discussed as needed at a later point. I wasn’t even going to bring it up, but I’ve already had one mom ask, so I thought I would go ahead and address it.
If you are interested in your child participating, please contact me at 812-303-6662 or via email at nikki@davisdigitalphotography.com
The only last item of note is to bring a few changes of clothes so that I can settle on a final outfit or so that we can do a few outfits. I would also ask that you stay away from logowear, so nothing that has a popular character or identifiable logo on it. I don’t want to infringe on any company’s copyrights by photographing something with a logo or copyrighted character on it. Just stick with simple, but clean clothes. A little dressy is fine, but whatever matches the location, the weather, and the child him or herself. We want these pics to really show their personalities, so something they would be comfortable in and have fun in! Any questions? Don’t hesitate to contact me. My phone number again is 812-303-6662, but email is always the best means to reach me: nikki@davisdigitalphotography.com Take care, and again, thank you for your family’s time and participation!
Warmest regards, Nikki Davis
